Play therapy is a psychotherapeutic method utilizing play as the primary mode of communication between practitioner and patient. It can aid patients who may otherwise have a difficult time expressing themselves verbally or otherwise overcoming psychosocial challenges. Play therapy can aid in the development of empathy, social skills, social integration, emotional modulation, and trauma resolution as well as a decrease in the patient's aggression. Southwest students now can check out play therapy kits from the Bishop Harrison Library for academic or practical use.
Kit contents include over 88 individual toys and are designed to be played with. Our kits contain toys ideal for directive and non-directive play, aggression play, dollhouse play, dress up and role play, and many general play functions.
Play therapy kits are designed to be directly engaged with and contain some single-use components. Due to this, the library does not expect or require kits to be returned in the exact condition they were in when checked out. If a crafting component is consumed or if a toy is moderately damaged, please note this change condition on the included handout so the library can prepare the kit for future use.
